Welcome!

Highlands Elementary School is a city school in a suburban setting. Located in the beautiful Rockford Park area of Wilmington, the school serves a diverse population of students.

We believe the elementary grades lay the foundation for lifelong learning. This is accomplished in a warm, caring, and nurturing environment where the staff is committed to meeting the individual needs of each student. We believe that each child matters. Our motto, "Learning and Growing Together," reflects a commitment from students, parents, teachers, and our school community to work together and achieve success for all students.

DCAS
The Delaware Comprehensive Assessment System (DCAS) is a comprehensive assessment system. The assessments are given online instead of with pencil and paper. It is state mandated that all public and charter schools participate in the assessment. The purpose of the DCAS is to measure how individual students are performing in relationship to Delaware academic state standards.  Students have multiple opportunities to take each of the tests throughout the school year.  The Spring DCAS testing window opened at Highlands on March 12. Check with your child’s teacher for the dates your child will be taking the test. The DCAS schedule is also on the Highlands’ Website. All students in grades 2-5 are required to participate. There will be two opportunities in the spring for students in grades 3-5 to take DCAS Reading and Math.  Students in grades 3-5 who achieve a PL4 in the first round of spring DCAS for Reading and/or Math may be excused from the second DCAS opportunity. The student can only be excused with parental permission. In addition, students in grade 5 will also take DCAS Science and students in grade 4 will take DCAS Social Studies exams.
